The Sauk Personal Association voted to officially change our name to Sauk Columbia SHRM in our September 11th meeting. We had a great first meeting for our 2013-2014 year! About 50 individuals attended to hear Bonnie Wendorff present on Employment Law Updates for 2013. We were very lucky to have her present. She is very knowledgeable and shared great stories. Some of the areas we heard updates on included: social media, background check guidance from EEOC, first ever under GINA, unpaid internships, and FMLA. We also collected donations for our SHRM foundation basket during our meeting. Our October meeting on healthcare reform was also moved from October 9th to October 16th so it did not conflict with the state SHRM conference.
Our group held a social over the summer at Green Owl. It was very well attended by our members, so we are looking into additional opportunities for social events outside of our monthly meetings. We will also continue to have our annual golf outing. Our board of directors is looking forward to a great year. We have been able to line up some great speakers. We look forward to presentations on these topics at our upcoming monthly meetings: Health Care Rreform, Advanced Linked In, Generational Differences, Anti-Harassment Training, FMLA, Drugs in the Workplace, and OSHA. If you have any ideas for additinal topics, please let us know. Click here to learn more about our great chapter.
