What are your goals for the chapter?
To offer valuable and meaningful programming to our members and to continue to educate and inform members on what SHRM has to offer. Additionally, we would like to continue to grow our overall membership and increase our SHRM members. We plan on doing this by promoting our membership initiatives as we did for the first time this year.
What are the biggest challenges you are finding as a chapter leader?
One of the biggest challenges we are facing as a Board is that leaders in general are the busiest people, professionally and personally. They are often ascending to leadership roles in their company and leading several organizations (or participating at a high level). Therefore, finding a leader who can dedicate enough time without burning out is a challenge.
What are you most excited about for your chapter in the next 6 months?
The Sauk Columbia Personnel Association is excited to be hosting Craig Culver, CEO and Co-founder of Culvers Frozen Custard, at our March meeting. Craig Culver is a homegrown success story who will share his expertise and knowledge of what has made him so successful. “The food side is the easy part; creating a great culture is not something you can just decide one day. Continuing to build on that culture is a great opportunity. The businesses with the best people are the businesses that are going to win.” -Craig Culver
What else would you like to share about your chapter?
We have recently created a Facebook and Twitter account to share with our members about upcoming SHRM events and news. It is our goal to continue to utilize these tools to increase awareness of our chapter and what is going on. Social Media is definitely a paradigm shift for us professionally and personally and takes some getting used to. However with that said it continues to be a very important tool to maximize communication potential.
We have also added to our monthly meetings, a portion called “The Buzz”! We as HR Professionals always seem to pass out the positive kudos to our employees and I think sometimes we forget about ourselves. So this new section is dedicated to our members who want to celebrate a success, it can be personal (birth announcements, marriage, etc.) or professional (promotions, new challenges) in nature. It has also been a great way to learn more about our members and increase networking opportunities.
