The 2011 WI SHRM State Conference will take place October 12-14 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, WI. State Conferences do not happen in a vaccum. They require a lot of commitment and hard work to put on the “big show.” This is one of an ongoing series highlighting the people behind the scenes as well as the positions they hold.
For the 2011 WI SHRM State Conference, hotel rooms do not simply become available. Food does not magically appear on your plate. Sound and vision does not easily become available for each session. The Amys – Amy Collett, Director of Human Resources at Society Insurance, and Amy Utzig, Human Resource Manager for Dane County – have worked tirelessly to ensure that your conference experience is a positive one.
Why did you want to become involved with the conference?
Amy C: “I had served on a local chapter board and on the state council and still wanted to volunteer to help support and advance the HR profession in Wisconsin once my term ended.”
Amy U: “I enjoy the friendships I have developed as well as the network of HR professionals to discuss issues or bounce ideas off of.”
What is your committee doing to make the 2011 WI SHRM State Conference special?
Both Amy C and Amy U concur that accommodations always tries to ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout the conference, from room size for specific speakers, to food selection. A special sit down dinner to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the state conference is being planned for Thursday, October 13.
What has been the biggest challenge(s) in your role?
Amy C: “Planning food for 1,000 plus people is always a challenge!”
What are you most excited about for the conference?
Amy C: “Dueling pianos will be wonderful entertainment for our silver anniversary.”
Amy U: “I enjoy seeing the attendees pleased about the great speakers and how well the conference is run. That is all due to the committee members’ hard work.”
Both Amys wish everyone an enjoyable conference.
