Our three key areas of focus in 2009 and 2010 were Communication, Collaboration and Education. We made some significant progress in these areas and they will continue to be pathways as we focus on many initiatives. This year, however we will focus even more on how we can inspire the Innovation portion of this formula for success. The focus on Innovation is everywhere. Companies are making smart and innovative decisions to survive and be more successful. In our definition, Innovation is not just creating something new or doing something different. It is a focus on a change in how you do something or re-arranging the old in a fresh new way. We want to make sure our initiatives are innovative and have a strong value.
As a team we already started with this focus in many areas and we have a great amount of talent in our core council and chapter presidents this year to lead us and inspire this innovative thinking. Our key initiatives will focus in many areas including membership, expanded legislative conferences throughout the state, a workforce readiness partnership focusing on the WC-Connection (WIS Careers), and a focus on connecting through Social Media.
The front page of the Appleton Post Crescent on 1/8/2011 reads that our new governor Scott Walker has embraced the social media tool Twitter. The expanded use of social media is everywhere. This year, the WI SHRM State Council will also take the leap into social media. You can expect updated Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter sites to connect you to the council and other HR Professionals. You will find Legislative alerts, Chapter updates, educational information from our state council partners, and regular information on our many state conference events. To lead this focus, Matt Stollak, the WI SHRM State Council Social Media Director will keep you up to date with a regular blog. To make this most effective, we encourage you to jump in and connect to get this valuable information.
So, as a Council, we will continue to look at what we do, keep it fresh and exciting, and make sure it is adding value to support our council and chapter goals as well as the HR profession. Thanks for connecting with our Social Media initiative.
Kellie Dunn-Poggemann, SPHR
2011- 2012 WI SHRM State Council Director
